Ricky Gervais, you are awesome. On that note, goodmanbrown, i don't think you'll like the British Office, try the American one first. No, really. In the very far chance that you do like it, please watch Peep Show, which Netflix has as well. It's, IMO, very much funnier, but still in the "uncomfortable" variety of British comedy.

Also on that note, if any of you have not seen the UK series People Like Us, do. It's on PBS here in Abq on Sundays right about now, and it's hi-fucking-larious. Not sure about those of you in other markets, but i'd reckon my friend Bitt O'Rrent would know exactly where to find it; poke him for details.

I'd reckon that Pira T. eBay would disagree with you.

That's perhaps a little more than I need to know.

Unless, of course, you're on about the BBC comedy ... in which case, please forgive my misunderstanding.

I watched the British version a couple of months ago. While I didn't exactly find it funny much of the time, often pretty depressing, actually, I did like it a lot. That is, I ended up liking the whole thing a lot, once I'd finished the whole thing. Formally speaking, I think it's the most interesting TV I've seen... dunno, maybe ever.

The combination of six hours of entirely plotless situational comedy combined with an hour and a half of tightly plotted, almost trite romantic comedy, with characters commenting on the structure here and there throughout-- it was interesting. Made me want to write a David Lodge novel.

I watched the first season of the American version last week. The first episodes were painful, but since they've started to develop a little more of their own identity, it's gotten a lot better. (The episodes about health care and basketball are much better than the re-hashed British comedy of the first episodes.) I'll definitely check out the second season when it's released.

Yeah, the American version has gotten a lot better.

You should look up some other British comedies in that vein. I call it the "uncomfortable" sort of Brit comedy, and there are quite a few of them (including that Alan Partridge stuff i sent you ages back). It's easily my favourite type of comedy at the moment.
