10:27 pm - I shouldn't be allowed to own fish

Previous Entry Share Next Entry

The Interweb tells me that under no circumstances should i have bought a 4$ Betta fish from a petstore, but rather, i should have gone through a reputable breeder.

Extrapolating from my knowledge of purebred cats and dogs, this should have been an obvious thing.

Still. My little un-named fishy, fishy, fishy, oh seems happy enough with his bowl and diet of pellets and bloodworms and is already learning to come to a finger pressed against the side of his tank. In all his lovely, poorly-bred, mongrel blueness, both Mina and i are happy with him.

I nearly had to get her a kitt0n this weekend. She's very much suffering from cat-loneliness, and there was a lovely black boy for adoption from one of the shelters. But i'm not sure i can ethically have two cats here, and the adoption fee was ranging on the ridiculous. He was pretty precious though.

But still, hooray for fish.

Feed him half of the recommended dose. If that. My fish is plenty fat from half the food the silly can recommends... ;)

That girl has a massive collection of betas, most of which she gets from the "trash" section of pet stores. She revives them and has found rare breeds mixed in with the regulars. It's pretty impressive, but I noticed that she doesn't have her beta photos tagged. A shame.

Awww, I used to buy bettas when they were discounted at Wal Mart.

It all started when Q caught me talking to the Wal Mart bettas, teary-eyed and sad.

He said "you can take home TWO, but no more."

I had those bettas for 2 and a half years, then when we moved to StL, a friend of mine had them for another year more.

I haven't had bettas here in StL, but maybe when we settle I'll get a few more. But where do you even find a "reputable betta dealer?" It's not like I can go my usual pet route (which is to adopt from the Animal Humane Association....)
