Mars: "Dad, what's Easter?" - 1370°C
Feb. 18th, 2006
03:03 pm - Mars: "Dad, what's Easter?"
Voltaire: "Well, remember how i told you what Christians believe about Jesus Christ's death? Easter is the day that they celebrate Jesus rising from the grave three days after he died."
Mars: "Jesus was a zombie!?!"
The Voltaire show was very good. This is the third time i've seen him, and each show has been better than the last. He played his acoustic set, complete with amusing anecdotes between songs. The above story effectively takes the place of my other favourite Voltaire tale, where he is approached by goths griping about how awful Techno and Ravers are. The goths are then lured away by an incredibly oontzy song screeching "Oooh, this is my favourite song, i have to dance."
As usual, Voltaire spent the time before his set chatting with fans in the bar, and sold his own merchandise afterward. I didn't talk to him, but did nearly run smack into him when i was coming out of the toilet and he was heading in (Pulse has unisex toilets). He seemed very bemused. The Pulse raffled off an original Voltaire drawing along with his two books, but i didn't stick around to see who won.
The only negative side to the night was a sight one doesn't usually see in Abq--three annoying darkling kids standing next to me (mind you, at the very front of the stage), who talked amongst themselves and pushed one another (into other people) through the whole show. The pretentious looking guy who was part of the group didn't seem to know any Voltaire songs except for Brains (the one he wrote for Cartoon Network's Grim and Evil). He sung along to that one, and then stood there, arms crossed, through the rest of the show. He didn't even laugh at Voltaire's jokes. This isn't nearly as bad as the Minneapolis chick talking loudly on her mobile phone loudly while Blixa was trying to talk/sing, but it disappoints me. Albuquerque used to be a place where everyone truly appreciated when bands came to play.
In Olympic news, the Slovakian hockey team (which included Marion Gabarik of the MN Wild) just beat the US team 2-1. Yay Marion!
