12:25 pm - the trouncing
yesterday was ridiculously nice. lunch with the awesome faelad and
pixink at Flying Star, then running about looking at electronics and buying hair dye and pop rocks and Bernie Bott's Every Flavour Beans, and a neat camphor pouch thing that clears one's sinuses. dinner with
netan9el who i don't see enough of and
barjack who i've never had more than a 2 minute conversation with and was happy to get a chance to finally hang out with. soooo much sushi.
then, acquired what will come to be known as The Game is Risk Godstorm. it's Risk set in ancient times with a ludicrously complicated set of secondary rules (12 pages of them). almost like CalvinBall Risk. you get a Pantheon of gods, there's an underworld, a ton of dice, a set of cards that changes the rules as you go along, there's an 11 step process that you have to go through each turn, and you can stage god battles. eep! in fact, there are so many rules and things to remember that damndirtyzombie and i actually kept forgetting to do things that would have been to our own advantage (for instance, after spending 5 minutes figuring out exactly how many armies i got at the beginning of my turn, i then plumb forgot to put them on the board, and waged all my attacks that turn with about 3/4 of the armies i should have had). however, despite the complicatedness, it's crazy amounts of fun. unlike regular Risk, you only play for 5 rounds (they call them Epochs), so the turns are incredibly long, but the whole game isn't (though i'm sure you *could* continue to play it for longer). and, you can also use the board to play regular Risk as well. the outcome of the first walkthrough was that i firmly trounced
damndirtyzombie {gloat}, but we've a rematch scheduled for sometime this week. after that, we will unleash the chaos that is this game on some other 1-3 unsuspecting Albuquerque players ;)
tonight, club. tomorrow, Sin City.
