i can neither spell the words Fahrenheit or Celsius on the first try.
in case you're interested:
to convert Fahrenheit to Celsius, the formula is: Tc = (5/9)*(Tf-32)
to convert Celsius to Fahrenheit, do the opposite: Tf = (9/5)*Tc+32
however, the math is hard to do in your head, so better yet, learn to estimate. you can do this two ways. once you know that F and C are the same at -40, freezing is 32F and 0C, human body temp is 98.6F and 37C, and boiling is 212F and 100C, you can make an educated guess. you can also do a little approximation math in your head. subtract 32 from your F temp and divide it by 2. add 1/10 of that number back to itself and it gives you a fairly close result. or, if you're feeling really lazy, you can just subtract 30 and divide by 2, but that's pretty darned inacurate.
***edit***
i don't think she still reads lj, but if anyone reading knows how to contact littleredhead, i'm not sure if she knows that Questa is flooding and they're talking about evacuating it.
once i figure out how to divide by 1.8 in my head i'll be able to do it the other way round, as well.
but i've got some easy ones memorized, as well. not just 0->32 but 10->50, 27->80 and 37.77777->100.
we're both going to be experts at this pretty soon. ^_^
addendum
if it is n degrees C outside: figure 2n. multiply by 10 to get 20n; subtract 2n from that, then divide by 10 again. then you've got 1.8n and just need to add 32.
but all in all posting the conversion/discussing both are pretty darn sexy!
I hadn't heard anything. gah! my mom lives about 10 miles north of town, in the much flatter area, so maybe?
*fret*
(I read all the time. I just never post/rarely comment anymore.)
yeah, they've been showing it on the news here (i'm in Abq at the moment if you hadn't figured that out). evidently, the runoff from the melting snow is causing the river there to overflow. i don't think they've done any evacuating *yet* but there's a flood warning for that whole area.
