Someone please listen to the first track of the new Depeche Mode album and tell me what song that opening sample comes from. It's something like Veruca Salt or some other punk rockish girly band, i think, but it's going to drive me *mad*

On second thought, I'm more or less convinced that it's just a synth.

Yes, it's a synth. But i'm pretty sure it's a synth sampled from the beginning of someone else's song that starts with the exact same synth sound.

If it's stretched out and the pitch is changed, it could be the distortion from the guitar in the Breeder's "Cannonball", but I kind of doubt it.

Yes! That's what i'm thinking of maybe. It wasn't exactly that i thought it was necessarily a direct sample, but it really reminded me of something, just as some of the other tracks bring Massive Attack to mind. I'll bet that's it.
